Class I Commendation
On December 6, 2011, you were working in dispatch and answered a 911 call reference a non breather at 1740 E. Stroop. The citizen on the line was very distraught as he just witnessed an older gentleman collapse and did not know what to do. Initially, the caller indicated the older gentleman was breathing, but at a very low rate. As you spoke to the caller, you were able to calm him and instruct him on what he needed to do for the subject on the ground. Suddenly, the subject stopped breathing; and, as the caller put it, “lips are turning purple.” You immediately went into action by telling him how to perform a life-saving measure before help arrived. You were also very instrumental in coordinating the EMS response. Once Ptl. McGuire arrived, you turned the scene over to him and continued your assigned duties.
As it turned out, the subject started breathing and then stopped again; but, with Ptl. McGuire’s assistance, his life was saved. If not for your ability to stay focused and calm, as well as using all your training, this incident could have ended in tragedy. You are to be commended for your outstanding work and dedication to your job.

On October 10, 2011, a female committed two robberies within a three-hour period in Kettering. She fled both scenes before KPD received a call. A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast over the radio.
Additional information revealed that the suspect vehicle, a white Cadillac, was westbound on E. Stroop.
Although not in the area, you scanned for the vehicle. You passed by a large, white vehicle, traveling northbound on Wilmington Pike that matched the description of the suspect vehicle. The driver matched the description of the suspect, and a traffic stop was made at the city limits. Clothing, cash and other items were located in the vehicle. Store clerks made positive identification, and she was arrested.
Ptl. Voehringer, you are to be commended for the effort displayed in successfully resolving this situation and taking the suspect into custody.

Ptl. Matthew C. Barnes & Eric M. Rustad
Class I Commendation
On October 5, 2011, you and Ptl. Rustad were en route to training traveling southbound on I-675 when you encountered a disabled vehicle. You stopped to assist the female driver. The driver advised that her husband was on the way to change a flat tire, so you stood by to wait.
When he was changing the tire, the jack slipped causing the vehicle to fall on his chest pinning him under the vehicle. You and Ptl. Rustad tried to reposition the jack under the vehicle without success. While Ptl. Rustad obtained a second jack, you continued to try to fix the original jack. You also tried to calm the victim's wife. Once the second jack was placed into position, the vehicle was lifted high enough to free him.
If not for your actions, this situation could have ended in tragedy. You and Ptl. Rustad are to be commended for the team effort displayed in successfully resolving this crisis situation and preventing serious injury.

Class I Commendation
On July 11, 2011, you were at 3300 Woodman assisting with the evacuation of the apartment building damaged by high winds. You assumed control of the situation and confidently provided direction to those responding to the scene.
As you were clearing the building, you encountered a male in an apartment who refused to leave. The man began to act erratically and ran into his bedroom. You retrieved K-9 Brix and utilized your command presence to gain compliance from the uncooperative male. The deployment of K-9 Brix eliminated the need for force in this potentially critical incident. A search of the apartment found evidence of firearms, ammunition, edged weapons and military surplus body armor.
If not for your actions, the outcome of the incident could have resulted in serious injury or even death to both officers and citizens. You are to be commended for your effort in successfully resolving this crisis situation.

You kicked the door open and ordered the male to drop the gun. The male complied and was taken into custody.
If not for your actions, this situation could have ended in tragedy. You are to be commended for the team effort displayed in successfully resolving this crisis situation and taking the suspect into custody. |
