Mayor's Award For Volunteer Service
The Mayor's Award for Volunteer Service is presented in the fall each year at a City Council meeting. The purpose of the award is to honor outstanding citizens who are making valuable contributions to the community through volunteer service in a wide variety of categories, such as health, recreation, arts, environment, education, public safety, civic service or human service.

In order to qualify for an award, the volunteer must be a resident of Kettering or the volunteer service must be performed in Kettering. The volunteer activity can be in a structured setting or on an informal basis.

Meet our 2011 Mayor's Award Winners
Charles and Carol Dickerson received the Mayor's Award for Volunteer Service at the December 6 City Council meeting.  This couple began volunteering for the City of Kettering before there even was a volunteer program!  In fact, Carol wrote the job descriptions for the volunteer manager position and the Volunteer Advisory Council.  Their first job involved planting marigolds in the medians.  Through the years, they've volunteered with numerous organizations in Kettering.  Currently they co-chair the city's Neighborhood Pride Program, and they play a vital role volunteering with the After-School Program at Christ United Methodist Church.  Carol is also active in Junior League, Phi Beta Phi Sorority and she is president of the local chapter of PEO International.  Charles and Carol are excellent examples of the dedication and commitment to volunteer service necessary to make a positive impact in our community.

Jordan Hibner and Jesicca Wuensch received the Mayor's Award for Youth Volunteer Service, Tuesday, April 12 from Mayor Donald E. Patterson.

Jordan is a senior at Alter High School and volunteers with the Key Club and the Art Club. She leads retreats and plans liturgies with the Peer Ministry, and she is a student ambassador.  She has volunteered for organizations such as We Care Arts, Lincoln Park Nursing Home, City of Kettering and St. Charles Church.

For the past six years she has put in 10-hour Saturdays for Rebuilding Together Dayton.  She also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity.  Last year she raised $3,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation by riding her bike 100 miles in one day.

Jessica Wuensch, a junior at Fairmont High School, devotes many of her volunteer hours to the City of Kettering.  She is the youth representative for the city's Board of Community Relations.  She was the youth leader for the 2011 Martin Luther King Breakfast, including recruiting youth volunteers.

In addition, Jessica serves on the leadership team for the Kettering Youth Council and is a board member on Partners for Healthy Youth.  Jessica has spend countless hours volunteering for St. Albert the Great Church.  She also holds leadership roles at Fairmont High School with the Spanish club, AFS club and the Scrapbooking club as well as serving as prom chairperson.
